Recently, RJP advised on the nation’s favourite soap opera, Coronation Street. Our associate director, Tess Cook, worked closely with ITV scriptwriters, advising on how to approach a storyline that involves Weatherfield’s planning department. The story, which began to air in December 2020, will see nimbyism played out on the famous cobbles, as the residents of the street unite to prevent a developer levelling half of the street to build a hotel complex. Whilst the demands of a TV drama storyline had to take precedence over some aspects of real world planning, we were able to advise on a variety of typical matters, from Section 106 Agreements, to bat surveys.

Director, Ruth Jackson said: “Having an input on the nation’s favourite soap is a far cry from the usual workload and has definitely been a bit of light relief during lockdown.”
