Prompted by our experience through the regional awards for planning excellence earlier this summer, we have made the decision to support the activities of the RTPI more in the future do ‘our bit’ to ensure it continues to flourish, for our mutual benefit. We have enjoyed the opportunity to put this commitment into practice, by getting involved in a couple of recent events.

Along with other RTPI regional award winners, Tess and Tillie recently attended a reception as part of the RTPI President’s visit to our region. Hosted by Lancashire County Council in Preston they had the chance to meet Tim Crawshaw in person and hear about some of the excellent work underway in the North West which featured on his tour. As ever, it was also a great opportunity to catch up with regional colleagues and put the planning world to rights!

On 8 September Tillie chaired the webinar Surface Water Flood Risk and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS): an update. The webinar was hosted by the RTPI North West, featuring speakers Laura Bigley, Principal Flood Risk Officer at Lancashire County Council, and Chris Findley, former head of planning at Salford City Council and member of the North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee. The webinar was attended by 270 people.

As someone who will gladly discuss permitted development rights for permeable driveways at dinner parties, Tillie was thrilled to have the opportunity to engage in this topic.
